Amazing WordPress Statistics That Will Blow Your Mind

WordPress usage is expanding at an unbelievable rate. It is by far the most popular CMS on the planet and it’s amazing how developers are pushing the boundaries on what it’s capable of. I’ve personally worked with WordPress on multiple high level applications include Dock Skipper, Two Way Resume, & Boatzo. I’ve been amazed at the capabilities and functions that are built into WordPress that allow me to build these complex sites with ease.

Today, we’re going to explore some unbelievable facts that convey how popular WordPress really is:

WordPress Now Powers Over 26% Of The Web

Every single day 500 new WordPress sites are created. As of March 2016, WordPress is powering 26.4% of the entire internet and it’s continuing to rise. It has a firm grip on the CMS market with 59.4% marketshare.

Half A Billion Posts Are Made On WordPress.com

In 2015, more than 660 million posts were made that allowed for 655 million comments. Are you kidding? Wow! I wouldn’t be surprised to see that number go to 700 million or even 800 million by end of 2016.

Almost 50,000 Plugins

There are 44,225 plugins in the WordPress repository and that’s not taking into consideration all the additional plugins that reside on public and private repositories or on third party sites like CodeCanyon. Those 44,000+ plugins on the WordPress repository have resulted in over 1.2 BILLION downloads.

Translated Into 56 Languages

WordPress has been translated by the help of the community into 56 languages. Looking to help keep these translations up to date? Get involved here: https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/

WordPress.com: 449 employees VS. Google.com : 61,000

This is due to the fact that the WordPress community is so vibrant and committed to the platform. WordPress.com gets 113 million monthly unique views and Google.com gets 244 million monthly unique visitors. Except WordPress.com has .007% the amount of employees as Google. If you are apart of this WordPress community, give yourself a pat on the back!

Only 22% Of WordPress Sites Are Up To Date

While every other statistic I touched on was positive, here’s a negative one. At the time of writing this article, it is estimated that only 22% of WordPress sites are running the latest version. With the recent Panama Papers leak, we could see more issues into the future if this number is not improved on. WordPress is a great CMS but it needs to be kept up to date. Struggling with this? Checkout WP Cover Support plans to have our team take care of updates for you.

Overall, WordPress is an amazing CMS with unlimited potential. I’m very excited to be apart of the WordPress community and anxious to see what the future holds!
